An author is planning to take Twilight creator Stephenie Meyer to court over claims that she copied her work.

Jordan Scott has announced that Meyer's fourth book Breaking Dawn has a similar plot and character to her novel The Nocturne.

Scott's spokesperson wrote in a letter to Hachette Book Group, which publishes the Twilight saga: "I think the fans have to read both books and make up their own mind, like a judge is going to have to."

Hachette responded that the books "have been a phenomenal sensation" and that "it shouldn't be surprising to hear that other people may seek to ride the coattails of such success".

The Twilight novels have sold 70 million copies worldwide.
