Simpson, Mayer restaurant meeting denied

A friend of Jessica Simpson has denied reports that the singer met up with ex-boyfriend John Mayer at a Los Angeles restaurant last week.

It had been alleged that the Dukes Of Hazzard star, who split from boyfriend Tony Romo last month, had bumped into him at Katsuya while enjoying a night out with her sister Ashlee Simpson-Wentz.

However, an unnamed friend told People: "I don't know where this rumour got started. John was not at Katsuya with Jess."

A friend of Mayer admitted that the pair had been in text contact since the break-up but insisted that they had not "met up", saying: "They're friendly but that's it."

An onlooker at the restaurant also denied the reports and revealed that Simpson "looked like she was having a good time with her friends. She was all smiles and didn't look like Tony was on her mind at all".

Simpson and Mayer have yet to comment.
