Judge Patricia Schnegg told the Los Angeles Superior Court yesterday that she needs additional information from authorities in Brown's home state of Virginia before handing out a sentence.
The judge is expected to order Brown to do community work, such as roadside cleanup or graffiti removal, rather than carrying out community service, according to AP.
Authorities in Virginia have yet to decide whether they will allow Brown to do community work in the state, subsequently delaying the sentencing.
Brown already reached a plea deal for the offence and under the terms of that agreement is expected to receive five years probation.
