Elizabeth, Hough confirm split on Twitter

Shannon Elizabeth and Dancing With The Stars professional Derek Hough have announced their split over Twitter.

The American Pie actress and Hough had been dating for over a year since meeting on the set of the ABC reality show.

In two messages posted on their individual accounts, the pair said: "Hi everyone, we wanted you all to know directly from us, that Shannon and I have decided to end our relationship as boyfriend and girlfriend.

"However, we love and care about each other very much and will remain friends and in each others lives."

Elizabeth later added: "Thank you everyone for all your sweet words and encouragement - it really means a lot to me!"
