The star, who was first discovered in the '60s, returned to modelling in 2005 after being approached to front an advertising campaign for Marks & Spencer. She has stuck with the department store chain ever since and signed a new contract alongside Myleene Klass earlier this year.
Reflecting on her success in an interview with Good Housekeeping, she commented: "It's weird, isn't it? I never dreamed this modelling thing would happen again. Who would? It's normally a young person's game.
"But I'm proud to be part of the M&S campaign and it's right to get someone of my age modelling clothes as well as young models. There is a large number of over-40s who are fashion led."
Twiggy added that she tries to strike the right balance between taking care of her appearance and not being obsessive over looks.
She explained: "Look, if someone came to me and said they could wave a magic wand for me to be any age I'd probably say 35. But that's not going to happen so getting upset about ageing is pointless.
"I'm fine with what I look like. I exercise, I eat well but I'm not fanatical because you've got to have a life."
