The TV presenter's partner James Midgley popped the question during the trip last weekend, The AP reports.
The 33-year-old said: "It was incredibly romantic and was a gorgeous, warm evening - the lights of Manhattan shone in the distance and we had a band playing live music on a boat."
She added: "I'd been laughing so much all evening, I was genuinely surprised by James's proposal.
"I did hope I'd be romanced, but never expected a gesture like this. In saying that, I was delighted to be asked - and of course my answer was a definite yes."
Falconer later confirmed the engagement in a post on her Twitter account, saying: "I have some news! @Midgley did the romantic thing & proposed to me in NYC! I'm absolutely delighted and I have a sparkling gem on my finger!"
