US comedian Tony Woods has revealed that he skipped a court appearance to fly to Australia for the Sydney Comedy Festival earlier this year.
The stand-up comic was supposed to be facing a judge for traffic offence charges but decided to leave the country to perform a gig instead.
The Daily Telegraph quotes Woods as saying: "I thought, 'Should I go to the festival or show up for court?' So, I came to Australia."
He continued: "When I got back home I had to turn myself in because there was a warrant for my arrest. The earlier you do it the better, so I turned myself in at 6am and I was out by 5pm. Still it was a long time to be incarcerated for traffic violations."
Woods added: "I'd missed the court dates and the judge thought I thought I was above the law."
The funnyman had to pay $100 (£50) in court fees.
