The actress confirmed that she has hardly seen Mead since they tied the knot in a low-key Seychelles ceremony in April.
While Van Outen has been busy rehearsing for her one-woman show at this month's Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Mead has spent most of the year at a top New York drama school.
On her plans for August, Van Outen told the Daily Record: "I'm so looking forward to seeing [Lee]. He's definitely going to visit and give me some support.
"It's not our first separation because he's been in New York studying over there. It's not ideal but we're sort of used to it - it's part of our business unfortunately. It might seem strange to other people but it's very normal for us."
Van Outen and Mead met on the set of BBC One talent show Any Dream Will Do in 2007 before getting together at the end of the year.
