The singer has been ordered to demolish the structure at his home in Surrey after officials at Runnymede Borough Council decided that it is too big.
It is believed that Richard, who is trying to sell the £1.6 million bungalow, had not applied for planning permission before the extension was erected three years ago. He has since argued that the conservatory's manufacturers told him he did not need permission.
A source told the Daily Mail: "He was not too happy at all about the council saying the conservatory was too big. He is arguing his side and obviously he does not want to have to demolish it as it would mean he would have to push down the asking price."
The insider added: "Cliff has appealed against the enforcement notice and now it's just a case of wait and see what happens."
A Runnymede Borough Council spokesman confirmed: "We await the appeal decision and for an inspector to decide if it comes down and how long Sir Cliff has to demolish the conservatory."
The three-bedroom property is located on the Wentworth Estate, which also houses Bruce Forsyth and Gary Numan.
