Band Aid 20 - "a tremendously bad idea"

Despite being one of the first of the larger stars to agree to appear in Band Aid 20's reworking of Band Aid's 1984 version of Do They Know It's Christmas?, Coldplay's Chris Martin has now declared that the project was "a tremendously bad idea."

Apparently Martin only acquiesced and agreed to take part after he heard that Travis singer Fran Healy was joining in the charity event, and had been moved by a report about the refugees in Sudan's Darfur province.

He explains, "My first reaction was that this was a tremendously bad idea, the cheesiest thing I'd ever heard.

"A couple of weeks went past and I was told Fran was doing it, which made it more interesting. Then I watched the news and saw a report on Darfur. I decided there and then that I was going to do this. I was genuinely moved."

The Band Aid 20 single was released for download yesterday and will be out in shops from next Monday (29th November).
