Gray: 'I used to find fame confusing'

David Gray has revealed that he struggled with the public's interest in his personal life when his first album was released in 2000.

The 'Babylon' singer said that he has learnt to cope with the fame that he at first found "confusing".

Gray told The Daily Mail: "When White Ladder topped the charts, I found the 'wonderful world of celebrity' confusing. I didn't know how to deal with it, so I went into a state of denial. But that doesn't work in the long term."

The 41-year-old musician continued: "I find it easier now. That could be because nobody is interested anymore, but I'd like to think it is because I am in control of my own destiny. I am not shy anymore."

Talking about his new album, which features Annie Lennox, Gray said: "I wanted to make some big changes. Working with Annie was part of that process. The great thing about Annie is her lack of ego. She didn't just turn up and sing. She lifted the whole album."

Draw the Line is released next month.
