The PR expert, who represented Katona for four years before being sacked in 2008, admitted that he fears for the welfare of his former client following the latest allegations about her personal life.
On Sunday, a tape was released which appears to show the reality TV star snorting cocaine at her Cheshire home. She has since been dropped as the face of supermarket chain Iceland and is now reportedly facing a new custody challenge from her ex-husband Brian McFadden.
Speaking to the Daily Star, Clifford commented: "Kerry was always a great mum. I know that from the time I spent with her. But how can she carry on being a good mum if she's out of her head on coke? She needs to face reality. She clearly needs help.
"She was in The Priory for a while but it's time for her to sort her problems out once and for all. It's very sad because with every year that goes by she gets closer and closer to a very tragic end."
Sources close to Katona have suggested that she would not welcome Clifford's latest remarks.
One friend said: "He has not seen or spoken to her for a year. He knows nothing about her and therefore anything he says has no basis in reality."
