The 16-year-old star had faced criticism from some sectors after she danced around a metal pole while performing her hit song 'Party In The USA' at the August 10 event.
Speaking to Access Hollywood, he said: "You know what? I just think that Miley loves entertaining people. She loves singing [and] songwriting.
"I always tell her to love what you're doing and stay focused for the love of the art and not worry so much about opinion."
Cyrus recently scored her highest new entry position in the Billboard Hot 100 with 'Party In The USA', which is taken from her upcoming EP The Time Of Our Lives.
