Heroes star Zachary Quinto has teamed up with the Save The Arcade campaign.

The 32-year-old actor appeared at Video West Arcade in Glendale, California to take part in a Stride gum-sponsored event to keep the venues open.

He told Sci-Fi Wire: "I'm a big fan of giving people a place to go where they can feel really expressive of who they are and connect to people who are like-minded."

He added: "A lot of arcades are owned by small businesses and families, and they're struggling [to stay] relevant in a society that is becoming ever more commercialised... For me, it's about giving attention to that."

Four arcades are being featured on Stride's website, while visitors can play video games and their points will benefit the amusement centre of their choice. By the campaign's end, the site which receives the most points determined by gamers will receive $25,000 (£15,000).
