The Time Traveller's Wife star has insisted that she was not "rebellious" growing up but revealed that she was not keen on having others telling her what to do, reports Female First.
McAdams said: "I wasn't terribly rebellious in the traditional sense but I guess I was very headstrong. I don't like to be told what to do.
"I wasn't going out and breaking the law, I just wanted to be my own boss. But I have changed - a little bit."
The 30-year-old actress has also said that she looks forward to starting a family in the future and that she hopes that she can project some of her mother's qualities onto her children.
She added: "My mum is a great inspiration to me. She is a nurse and very nurturing and gentle. She lets me be who I am.
"Hopefully I can take on those qualities and be as great as her when I have children. Having a few children would be great - I'm looking forward to it someday."
