Gwyneth Paltrow and husband Chris Martin are planning to adapt their North London home into a luxurious 33-room mansion, reports have suggested.

The couple, who have two young children, are alleged to have bought the property next door to their current family house as part of their proposal to create a new £7m home.

According to the Daily Mail, plans for the property indicate that the pair are hoping to knock through the connecting walls and build a two-storey extension that will house a gym, changing room, three bedrooms and a bathroom.

"It will be a massive house. What they have already is a substantial family home, but to double and add a bit on will make it a real mansion," said one neighbour.

"No-one objected as they are not going to change the outside appearance of the property and the extension is on their land and a few other houses in the street have similar add-ons."

Coldplay singer Martin is understood to have bought their current home from Kate Winslet for £2.5m in 2004, before snapping up the neighbouring property for £3.1m two years ago.
