The Los Angeles Times has claimed that the coroner's office found the drug in the singer's body following his death from cardiac arrest on June 25.
The newspaper alleged that the cause of death was revealed in a search warrant affidavit that was unsealed earlier in Houston.
The warrant reportedly claims that Jackson's personal doctor Conrad Murray told investigating officers that he gave the star the drug to treat insomnia, but attempted to wean him off it after fearing that he was forming an addiction.
The official coroner's report has remained sealed at the request of the LAPD because of the ongoing investigation into Jackson's passing.
