The 25-year-old singer was arrested several days ago when police stopped him in relation to a two-year-old warrant for driving without a license, according to NME.
Speaking for the first time since his arrest, Stump said in a statement: "All I really have to say is ignorance of the law isn't innocence. I didn't want to give up my Illinois driver's license and was unaware that was a crime. It is, by the way, in the state of California.
"Lesson learned. I technically broke a law, so technically I deserve whatever I get. But man, is my mum gonna be p*ssed."
As previously reported, Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz mocked his bandmate via Twitter.
