The death of Michael Jackson has been ruled as homicide due to intoxication by anaesthetic, a Los Angeles coroner has revealed.

The late singer passed away in June after suffering a cardiac arrest at his home in LA.

"The cause of death was established as acute propofol intoxication," the coroner's report stated.

"The manner of death has been ruled: Homicide," it continued.

A cocktail of drugs that included Midazolam, Diazepam, Lidocaine, Lorazepam and Ephedrine was detected in Jackson's body, BBC News reports.

Police have carried out interviews with the star's doctor Conrad Murray following the death, though the physician has not been named as a suspect in the case.

Murray previously told officials that he had been administering propofol as part of Jackson's treatment for insomnia, although had attempted to wean him off it after fearing that he was forming an addiction.
