Rumours of an impending split between MTV darlings Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey have surfaced again.
Last month the pair dismissed reports of a rift after Nick's alleged wild behaviour on a stag party, insisting they were "absolutely not" breaking up.
Now US magazine People claims to have the latest "inside word" by means of a rogue email detailing a "tense backstage atmosphere" at a Christmas tree lighting ceremony in New York last month.
"Lachey and Simpson had separate dressing rooms and the couple hardly acknowledged each other throughout the evening," said the magazine.
Just days earlier, Nick and Jessica had once again declared that everything was rosy. "We're each other's foundation and we're each other's rock and we have to lean on that when there are storms to weather," Jessica told Good Morning America.
The duo are currently filming the final series of Newlyweds.
