Clifton Tomlinson, son of comic actor Ricky Tomlinson of The Royle Family, died of alcoholic liver disease on Saturday.

Clifton, who died at the young age of 33, had been tackling his addictions to alcohol and heroin for some time. He died in Wrexham Maelor hospital where his mother (Ricky's first wife, Marlene) and girlfriend were thought to be at his bedside.

John Hughes, coroner for North-East Wales, announced: "I have opened and adjourned an inquest into the death of Clifton Tomlinson.

"The post mortem showed cause of death as alcoholic liver disease."

Ricky has declined to comment to the press, saying at his Liverpool home: "Sorry mate, I don't want to say anything."
