Daniel Craig has reportedly hired 24-hour security guards in order to protect himself while rehearsing for Broadway play A Steady Rain.

The Quantum Of Solace actor is said to be so terrified of being approached by enthusiastic fans that he has brought in a team to ensure his safety at all times.

An insider told the New York Daily News: "Everybody thinks it's funny because the truth is, Daniel rarely gets approached by the public in the street and at restaurants - especially now that he has the huge handlebar moustache for this role."

As previously reported, A Steady Rain is due to debut on September 29 and sees Craig and Hugh Jackman play policemen whose friendship is put under strain.

Another source explained: "Security and secrecy around the show are so tight that Jackman and Craig are rehearsing at a secret location outside the city."
