Terry Wogan: 'Newsreading is easy'

Rex Features

Sir Terry Wogan has claimed that reading the news is the "easiest job in the media".

The radio presenter describes the work as "a piece of cake" in his forthcoming book Where Was I?! ! The World According To Terry Wogan.

He wrote: "Newsreading is not to get self-important about, it’s a piece of cake, the easiest job in the media. Get your good suit and tie on, a quick dab in make-up (in Fiona Bruce’s case, the lippy is going to take a tad longer), make yourself comfy and here comes the news."

Fiona Bruce did not comment on the remarks, but BBC presenter Kate Silverton's agent said: "He just sits and plays records from a playlist, which is hardly difficult.

"Newsreaders at the top like Kate have to interview live. Terry should get off his high horse."
