Sparks recalls first meeting with Spears

Jordin Sparks has recalled her first meeting with Britney Spears at last year's MTV Video Music Awards.

The American Idol winner, who is currently supporting Spears on her 'Circus' tour, told MTV News that she was incredibly nervous when she discovered that she was seated near the singer at the ceremony.

"I [didn't] know what to say, because it was her big comeback thing," she explained.

"She was nominated for however many [awards], and she looked beautiful, and I was like, 'Aaah!' My mum had to ask her for a picture. My mum was with me, because I couldn't do it. I was like, 'Mum, I cannot ask her for this picture'."

Sparks added that Spears was initially hesitant about having her photograph taken but her manager Larry Rudolph managed to convince her otherwise.

"[He] was like, 'She's on your label, you're going to want to take the picture'. And I was like, 'Cool!' I understand too because she wanted to sit and watch. But we got to take the picture!"

The 2009 MTV Music Video Awards will take place on September 13.
