Disney, Pixar sued by lamp company Luxo
Published Tuesday, Sep 8 2009, 18:49 BST | By Tim Parks

The animation studio has used a hopping swivel lamp as its mascot since founder John Lasseter created the Luxo Jr character for a 1986 Academy Award-winning short film. The filmmaker is said to have based the design on his own Luxo lamp.
The Oslo-based company filed a lawsuit in a New York federal court against the studios for selling a limited edition of the creation for the upcoming Blu-ray release of Up.
The suit alleges that the sale of the items would "cause devastating damage to Luxo and dilute the goodwill which Luxo has built up".
The complaint also cited a new Walt Disney World attraction, which features a six-foot animatronic version of the lamp as a second form of a patent infraction.
A spokesman for Disney declined to comment on the matter.
