David Walliams has been nominated for a prestigious literary prize after the success of his children's book about a cross-dressing schoolboy.

The Little Britain comic penned his debut novel The Boy In The Dress last year, and the book has since received a clutch of positive reviews.

The novel has now been featured in the shortlist for the coveted Roald Dahl Funny Prize, which honours the funniest children's books of the year, Contactmusic reports.

Walliams's tale is expected go up against established authors including Allan Ahlberg and Anne Fine.

The winner will receive a cash prize of £2,500, which will be presented at an awards ceremony in London on November 10.
