Evans 'didn't want a Cobain impression'

Shaun Evans has said that he did not wear a wig in his upcoming stage play Kurt & Sid because he did not want to do an "impression" of Kurt Cobain.

Evans instead opted to dye his hair for the production, where he plays the late Nirvana songwriter alongside Danny Dyer as former Sex Pistols bassist Sid Vicious.

He told the BBC: "We explored those options and thought about it but it's not really my bag. The stage is very small, so if I was to get hair extensions, you would see them.

"If I got a wig, it would feel uncomfortable and weird. I'm not interested in doing an impression and if I was to wear a wig, you open yourself to people saying, 'Oh it doesn't really look like him', or 'It doesn't really sound like him'."

Of the play by Roy Smiles, Evans added: "It's kind of a fantasy really, what if Kurt Cobain met Sid Vicious? If Sid Vicious, or an idea of Sid, came to convince him not to kill himself."

Dyer has said that Vicious was a "really sensitive soul", despite being musically "useless".
