Richie, Madden Twitter about newborn baby

Nicole Richie and Joel Madden have taken to their Twitter accounts to discuss the birth of their second child.

The Simple Life star and partner Madden welcomed son Sparrow James Midnight at a Los Angeles hospital yesterday morning.

Writing on her blog, Richie said: "What a great day to come back on Twitter! Thank you everyone for your well wishes. I love my family!"

Madden added: "First day of his life and my son is already a trending topic on Twitter. That's right son, you're just like your old man. Wait, I've never been a trending topic."

The couple are also parents to 19-month-old daughter Harlow.
