Michael Caine: 'Send offenders to school'

Rex Features

Sir Michael Caine has urged the government to tackle the country's spiralling youth crime figures by sending young offenders to special schools.

The 76-year-old insisted that the UK needs to take drastic action in order to curb rising levels of crime, Contactmusic reports.

He said: "They need to be sent to school, not a prison where they will learn to be criminals."

In his new movie Harry Brown, the veteran actor plays a widower who avenges the death of a friend at the hands of young thugs.

Caine recently denied speculation that he is planning to retire.
