Damon: 'Clooney girlfriend is wonderful'

Matt Damon has spoken out in support of George Clooney's new girlfriend, branding her a "really wonderful woman".

The Ocean's Eleven star began romancing Italian TV presenter Elisabetta Canalis this summer and recently took their relationship public at the Venice Film Festival.

Speaking to People, Damon - one of Clooney's closest friends - said: "She is a really wonderful woman. It's nice to see my friend so happy."

When asked whether he had seen friend Ben Affleck recently, he replied: "He's been in LA and I've been in Miami, and now he's in Boston shooting, so we see each other less than we'd like to. Hopefully, we'll change that."
