Not many men can make a career out of playing pranks on members of the public and laughing at everyday misfortune. But then again, not many men can match up to the legendary Jeremy Beadle - arguably the greatest prankster of his or any other generation. With Game For A Laugh, Beadle's About and You've Been Framed, the Beadlester brought a new dimension to light entertainment TV, which has been mimicked by many (Noel Edmonds, Ant & Dec) but has never been bettered.
Cruelly mocked in his latter years (thanks in the main to a gag in Ricky Gervais's The Office about him pleasuring himself with his disproportionately small right hand), Beadle remained upbeat and resolute even as his TV career faded in the '00s. Despite being displaced by the grotesque Lisa Riley on Framed and having to resort to TV cameos on Countdown's Dictionary Corner and Dickinson's Real Deal, the bearded comic Adonis remained an immensely popular figure in the world of showbiz up until his sad death in January 2008.
