Ricky Gervais declines £10m-worth of work

Comic Ricky Gervais has reportedly turned down around £10m-worth of work, as money does not interest him.

Gervais has been left far from destitute from his earnings from The Office alone. Since being noticed on the show and receiving two Golden Globes he has received numerous lucrative job offers.

Among other things he has said no to being the face of John Smith's. He told The Sun: "It's bad enough people saying for the next 20 years 'That's the bloke out of The Office, but that is 20 times better than 'the bloke out of the beer advert'. I have probably turned down around £10m."

He told the newspaper: "The money being offered was criminal, but I am not interested in money.

"When people know you earn a thousand times more than a nurse it is f******* embarrassing.

"I am not proud of my earnings, I am proud of my work."

He has turned down both earnings and work in the form of Al Pacino's The Merchant of Venice, a Magnum PI remake and work on the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

Gervais is currently working with Stephen Merchant on new comedy show Extras, including cameos from such stars as Jude Law.
