Dame Vera Lynn has urged popstars to support the troops.
Speaking to The Daily Telegraph, the 92-year-old admitted that she doesn't know what the war in Afghanistan is about and added that she is unsure why British troops are fighting there.
However, she insisted that musicians should support the soldiers.
"I don't know why it is that they don't do more and I don't think any young stars are writing songs for them either," she said.
"They're not getting killed for their own country and Gordon Brown needs to bring them home, but public figures shouldn't look at war in terms of politics: they should just think of the boys and want to help them in any way they can."
Dame Vera Lynn broke a record last week when she became the oldest living artist to achieve a number one album.
