Friends of Jessica Simpson have reportedly voiced their concern for the star's wellbeing following the disappearance of her pet dog.

The Dukes Of Hazzard actress launched an appeal last week after her Maltipoo Daisy was snatched by a coyote.

A search for the pet was called off over the weekend.

Speaking to People, an unnamed friend said: "Daisy was her baby. It's going to put her into a tailspin. It will put her into the worst place ever."

However, another source insisted that Simpson was handling her pet's disappearance as well as could be expected and that reports about her emotional state had been exaggerated.

"She's really upset but she's not spiralling out of control by any means," said the insider. "She'll get through this but it is like losing a family member. She's focusing on work and spending time with her family and friends."

Simpson was bought the dog by ex-husband Nick Lachey in 2004.
