Mackenzie half-sister 'knew about affair'

Bijou Phillips has revealed that she was told about the alleged affair between her father and half-sister at age 13.

Mackenzie Phillips appeared on Oprah Winfrey's US chatshow earlier this week and claimed that she had a consensual incestuous relationship with her father John Phillips of The Mamas And The Papas.

The 49-year-old is to return to the programme today via satellite. Her half-sister Chynna will join Winfrey in the studio.

The talkshow host read a statement from Bijou during the broadcast, which stated that Mackenzie informed her about the affair while she was still a teenager, The Huffington Post reports.

The now-29-year-old said that it was "heartbreaking" for her family to allow her to be left alone with John. Mackenzie insisted that she felt that her sibling was safe.

"[He] had changed his ways as much as he was able to," Mackenzie said, adding that she would look for her half-sister when she "felt like she wasn't being watched properly".

The former One Day At A Time star's stepmother Michelle earlier denied that the events ever transpired.
