Gordon Ramsay has said that Keith Floyd's death earlier this month gave him "a big wake-up call".

Ramsay, 42, claimed that the celebrity chef's passing alerted him of the need to relax and take more time away from his career and businesses.

Floyd died from a heart attack, aged 65. The day before he passed away, a documentary featuring Floyd and actor Keith Allen aired on Channel 4.

"The documentary goes out, you wake up the next day and you're, 'What do you mean he's dead?' It doesn't make sense," Ramsay told the Daily Express. "It was a big wake-up call. I'm a control freak, I push myself to the limit.

"So there's a big lesson. I've been criticised over the last 12 months about how much I don't spend my time in the kitchen. I've got to pace myself - it always comes back to bite you on the backside. Of course it's going to be difficult to slow down, but you've got to learn from other people's mistakes."

Ramsay recently launched a new range of Seriously Good sauces, which will raise money for Comic Relief.
