Oscar winner Avary jailed for a year

He pleaded guilty to gross vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence of alcohol in a 2008 crash that killed passenger Andreas Zedini in Ventura County.
The 44-year-old's Mercedes was alleged to be travelling at more than 100 mph when it crashed into a telephone pole. His wife, a passenger in the car at the time, survived her injuries but Zedini died later in hospital.
Avary, who won a 1995 Academy Award with Quentin Tarantino for co-writing Pulp Fiction, has also been handed five years' probation.
Avary's other work includes writing and directing 2002's The Rules Of Attraction and co-scripting Beowulf.
