Emma Watson has reportedly been involved in a stalking plot orchestrated by students at Harvard.

The Harry Potter star recently began her freshman year at Brown University in the US.

The 19-year-old was attending a football game on Saturday at the rival school when the Harvard Voice student magazine devised a campaign to draw as much attention to the actress as possible, the New York Post reports.

Prior to the match, the publication posted a succession of messages on its Twitter page about the proposed plan, which is said to have left Watson "quite shaken" and flanked by security guards.

"We will be Live-Tweetin' the game and possibly stalking Emma Watson, so keep your eyes peeled for that, too! (sic)," the first posting read. Others said, "In enemy territory. Lookin for a certain witch"; "WATSON FOUND. i repeat WATSON FOUND".

The magazine later uploaded a picture of her on the site and proclaimed their mission a "success", though some readers were apparently furious about the incident.

The Harvard Voice responded to the criticism, saying: "There seems to be much ado about nothing over this photo and live blog. Understand that these live tweets were made to be intentionally outrageous and overblown."

Watson's rep could not be reached about the episode.
