Katherine Jackson had petitioned for custodial rights for Prince Michael, 12, Paris Michael Katherine, 11, and 7-year-old Prince Michael II, also known as Blanket, in June, while she reached an agreement with the late singer's ex-wife Debbie Rowe in July.
The terms of the deal stated that the 79-year-old would continue to care for the children, while Rowe - who is the biological mother to the two eldest - would be granted "meaningful visitation" and retain her legal parental rights.
At a hearing on Friday, the judge said that the kids are "really doing wonderfully with the grandmother as the guardian," E! reports.
"It was an excellent report," Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Mitchell Beckloff said of the update that he had received. "I am not inclined to set another date [on the guardianship matter]."
Attorneys for both Jackson and Rowe attended the proceedings.
It was reported earlier that the popstar’s will had named singer Diana Ross as a backup guardian, should his mother be "unwilling or able" to act as the children's minder.
