Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have been to Damascus in Syria to meet Iraqi refugees.

Jolie made the trip with her partner in her capacity as a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations, and was welcomed into the homes of two families in the Jaramana district.

The actress witnessed firsthand the squalid conditions in which the refugees are forced to live.

After the meetings, Jolie commented: "It is clear that the Syrian people, no matter the challenges or difficulties they may face, have always shown generous hospitality to people in need.

"I hope that the rest of the world recognises that we all have to share this burden and continue to take care of Iraqi refugees."
