Longlist for best song Brit announced

The songs in the longlist for the 'Best Song' award at the 25th annual Brit Awards have been confirmed today.

The list was announced by Davina McCall on her Radio 2 show this afternoon. The top five voted for by listeners will be announced with the other Brit Award nominations on January 10.

The songs, all from British artists since 1977, were chosen by a panel of members of the music industry and encompasses all tastes.

Colin Martin, editor of BBC Radio 2 Music, who sat on the panel, added: "Distilling over a quarter century of hits to a list of 25 to be voted on by Radio 2 listeners has been one of the most difficult tasks I have ever shared in."
