Gately family reject drinking claims

The family of Stephen Gately have denied claims that the Boyzone star passed away after an eight-hour drinking session in Majorca.

Their lawyer Gerald Kean said that tabloid reports that the singer died because of a lengthy drinking marathon were untrue, PA reports.

Kean said: "An eight-hour drinking session is something we do not accept - wherever that is coming from, our information would suggest that is simply wrong.

"We are not saying he was not drinking but eight hours is not something we accept. He was a very sensible man. He enjoyed himself, he loved life."

Kean has said that Gately's death was a "tragic accident" and that foul play and suicide were not factors in his passing.
