Rob Lowe: 'I'm a protective father'

Rob Lowe has revealed that he can be very protective over his two teenage sons.

The Invention Of Lying star, who has 16-year-old Matthew and John, 13, said that he refuses to take them with him when he goes heliskiing, which involves being taken to a remote mountain top and dropped to ski down.

He told Ellen DeGeneres: "It's doing something very dangerous. I have not taken the kids. They want to go. That's a little bit of a discussion at home. My wife is like, 'Are you crazy?' I think we're going to have to wait until they are at least old enough to shovel me out."

Lowe, who is married to Sheryl Berkoff, said that he did recently let his sons accompany him to the Emmy Awards.

The 45-year-old actor explained: "They were happy to attend because they've never done anything like that before, because we kept them away from Hollywood until they were old enough to sort of get it."

He added: "They were just thrilled that we had better seats than the guys from Entourage. I was like, 'Yeah, daddy's still got his fastball.' They're my best buds for sure."
