Court documents accused Samuel Levin of exposing the actor to numerous risky investments, TMZ reports.
The film star's former associate was accused of encouraging the 45-year-old to make decisions that led to "catastrophic" losses, taking him "down a path towards financial ruin".
Cage also placed the responsibility for an unpaid $6 million tax bill on Levin.
The lawsuit claimed the star of Leaving Las Vegas was unaware of "the gravity of his financial condition" until he fired his business manager earlier this year.
Levin is also accused of hiding Cage's "true financial condition prior to investments and assets being acquired".
