Police receive Gately article complaint

WENN

The Metropolitan police have received a complaint about an article referring to the death of Stephen Gately.

The column in the Daily Mail, written by Jan Moir, caused outrage on social networking sites, with many readers complaining to the Press Complaints Commission (PCC).

In the article, Moir described the events surrounding Gately's death as "sleazy", contradicted the post-mortem results by insisting that it was "not, by any yardstick, a natural [death]", and said that the tragedy "strikes another blow to the happy-ever-after myth of civil partnerships".

A Metropolitan police spokesman told Sky News: "We have received a complaint from a member of the public."

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the PCC said that most of the 1,000 complaints received were in relation to issues of accuracy, intrusion, and discrimination.
