The Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas has quit drinking, fearing that his alcohol consumption was harming his creativity.

The singer admitted that his previous dependence on drink started to affect his ability to write and record.

Casablancas told GQ: "I don't really drink. Creatively, drinking was becoming a hindrance. I always promised myself, 'If it starts affecting the music, I've got to chill out'."

The 'Last Nite' star added: "If I didn't drink I felt sick. It was so nice to automatically feel happy. I miss it every day."
