Streep's daughter Gummer engaged

Actress Mamie Gummer has confirmed that she is engaged to stage actor Ben Walker.

Gummer, whose mother is award-winning star Meryl Streep, said that her boyfriend of 18 months proposed to her on Sunday.

When asked if Walker got down on one knee, the 25-year-old told People magazine: "Yeah, he sure did." Talking about her family's reaction, she added: "They're all very happy... we're very, very smiley."

The pair met while starring in Dangerous Liaisons on Broadway. Gummer says of that time: "He was the Keanu to my Uma. We were kind of pals first. It was a drawn-out thing. He's very nice. He puts up with me. And he's very patient."

She added: "He had [the ring] made somewhere. He won't tell me where, so I doubt he will tell you."
