Jaclyn Smith has asked Perez Hilton to apologise for going public with a story suggesting that she had shot herself.

The celebrity blogger posted an incorrect news story about Smith last month, which convinced the star's friends, family and fans that she had died.

Smith told Access Hollywood: "I've moved on but apologies are always nice. It's irresponsible. It can be hurtful and painful to people that love you."

The Charlie's Angels actress said that although Hilton did post a correction, her loved ones were already panicked. She said: "My son was working that day and people came up to him and said, 'Your mum, your mum...'. He said, 'I just talked to my mum!'. He knows I wouldn't have done something like that. But you don't wanna hear that."

After the incident, Smith was forced to release a statement letting everyone know that she was "safe and home with her family".

Hilton's post actually referred to Smith's lookalike Sandra Franklin, who sustained a bullet wound to her stomach during an incident at her house.
