The fashion designer, who has reportedly landed a cameo role in Gossip Girl, claimed that young people are misinformed by media stories about her body image.
"I don't like it when people criticise my weight because I know that there are a lot of young girls who look up to me, so I consider that incredibly irresponsible," she told Attitude.
"Everyone knows images are tidied up for fashion covers and when you do shoots in magazines. However, people don't realise how often paparazzi pictures are also doctored in the totally opposite way, that many weekly magazines run these images to make you look bad and it's incredibly irresponsible.
"Every week they are pointing out someone's cellulite or tummy bulge. The obsession with fat and thin is out of control."
The former Spice Girl revealed that she ignores most stories written about her but makes sure anything libelous is dealt with.
"Being in America, I'm quite unaware of most of it. I don't have any interest in the tabloids," she said.
"I have a great team of people who look out for that kind of thing and they let me know if I should sue someone. But generally speaking, I don't hear it and I don't really care about the criticism because I feel very fulfilled creatively and professionally.
"I'm a big girl, I'm 35 years old. I've got three children and a husband so I don't really give a sh*t about that king of thing."
