Justin Timberlake has been granted a temporary restraining order.

A Los Angeles judge granted the order against Karen J. McNeil, The Mirror reports.

Timberlake's lawyer Evan Spiegel described McNeil as a "mentally unstable celebrity stalker" in court documents.

The papers also say that her actions have "become much more alarming and her motivation and obsession have become more ominous, intrusive and threatening".

She was placed in protective psychiatric custody by police after appearing at the singer's home on Thursday. It is allegedly the third time that she has visited the house.

McNeil reportedly also left a "bizarre" letter at Timberlake's home in June.

The judge will decide whether to grant a three-year restraining order against McNeil at a hearing on November 9.
